The Hour Has Come (John 12:20-36)

IMG_0017-0On Sunday, January 10, 2016, Pastor Joe Troutman preached “The Hour Has Come” from John 12:20-36.

The Son of Man was lifted up on the cross so that we might become the bountiful harvest of his labors.

1. Death Brings Life—“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit” (John 12:24).

2. Cast Out and Lifted Up—In the face of his horrible death, Jesus is ever obedient to his Father.
“’Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself’” (John 12:31-32).

3. Walk While It’s Light—Through his Church, Christ’s light continues to shine. Christ was lifted up so that even when we fail to take up our own cross to follow him, his grace is sufficient.
“So Jesus said to them, ‘The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.’ When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them” (John 12:35-36).
